The L.A. Lakers are going to meet with Tyronn Lue for their Head Coaching vacancy. The job has been open since the Lakers decided to part ways with Luke Walton on April 12th after a 37-45 season. Lue is the frontrunner for the job.
Lue has been a coach in the NBA. He was with the Cleveland Cavaliers for 4 seasons where they were an impressive 126-83 or a winning percentage of .607 under him. Cleveland went to the NBA playoffs 3 straight years with him which ended in runs to the NBA Finals. The only year they won the NBA Finals was in 2016 when they overcame a 3-1 series deficit to the Golden State Warriors. Lue was let go 6 games into the 2018-2019 season due to a 0-6 start.
Lue is the favorite to take over the Lakers. They are familiar with him because he played with the Lakers from 1998 to 2001. He helped the Lakers win 2 NBA championships as a player.
The Lakers want a coach with experience and Lue brings that to L.A. He knows how to coach a team far in the NBA playoffs and bring a championship to a city. There aren’t many coaches who can coach “superstar” LeBron James. Most coaches shy away from him because he may not listen. With Lue at least James knows his coaching style. James was with Lue from 2015 to 2018 in Cleveland.
The Lakers know Lue could be the right man for the job. If he is hired, they must give him time to turn the Lakers around. It will take a few years for that to happen. They can’t let him go after a few seasons even if they have a poor record. If they can him early, it will not help them in the rebuilding process to become a consistent playoff team. Hopefully Lue is the right man for the Lakers. ffffff
