Time For the L.A. Chargers To Can Head Coach Brandon Staley

By Jordan Long

(Update at 12:10 Eastern Time: Brandon Staley Fired)

The L.A. Chargers had their worst performance of the season, giving up 63 points to the Las Vegas Raiders last night, dropping the game 63-21.  Their record stands at 5-9, last place in the AFC West Division.  It is time for the Chargers to cut ties with Head Coach Brandon Staley.

This is Staley’s third season as the Chargers’ Head Coach.  In 2021, the Chargers finished 9-8.  Last season, they went 10-7 and ended as a Wild Card team.  In the Wild Card round, the Chargers faced the Jacksonville Jaguars.  They were up by as many as 27 points with 4:25 left before halftime.  From that point on, Jacksonville outscored the Chargers 31-3, winning the game 31-30.

This year the goal for the Chargers was to make it deeper into the playoffs.  The Chargers to this point don’t look like a playoff team.  Of course, it didn’t help they lost starting quarterback Justin Herbert to a broken finger that required surgery last week against Denver.

Last night against the Raiders showed it is time to move on from Staley.  The team never made in-game adjustments to have success.  That is on Staley.  For the Chargers, it was their 5th loss in 6 games.  Staley should be out for the poor performance not only for last night but the whole season.

According to ESPN.com, Staley said, “I know what I’ve done here for three years, and I know what I’ve put into this, and I know where we’re capable of going. I know the type of coach I am. I believe in myself.”

The Chargers have 3 games left this season.  It could be Staley is out before the end of the season.  Even if that happens, it won’t change the course of the season since they aren’t in a playoff hunt and are most likely going to have a top 5 pick in the NFL Draft.  Owner Dean Spanos will make the final say but it seems like an easy one.  Staley should be out.
