Time For The Denver Broncos To Can Vance Joseph

By Jordan Long

The Denver Broncos are preparing for the season finale Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs.   Denver enters the game at 5-10. There are rumors that it could be the final game for Vance Joseph as the Head Coach of the Denver Broncos.

Denver began the season at 3-1 and looked like a playoff team. Since then the Broncos are 2-9. The reason for their downfall is the offense. Denver started three different quarterbacks this season, Brock Osweiler, Trevor Siemian, and Paxton Lynch. All of them have struggled to this point with 17 touchdowns and 20 interceptions thrown among the three. The offensive line hasn’t done their job protecting them with 47 sacks, far too many.   They even fired Mike McCoy as offensive coordinator on November 20th and promoted Bill Musgrave hoping to have better results on offense. It hasn’t worked to this point.

The Broncos are scoring 17.7 points per game. Anytime they drive into the red zone, more times then not they have to settle for field goals. Denver averaged 323.3 yards per game, ranking 20th in the league. The only bright spot for the Broncos on offense is the running game which is averaging 116.1 yards per game.

The Broncos defense is playing well this year. There are times they have been gashed by the big play because they have been out on the field for a long time due to the offense not moving the football. The Broncos defense allows 284.1 yards per game which is 2nd in the league. Teams find it difficult to pass and run the football with 196.1 yards passing and 88 rushing yards per game. Denver has not been able to stop teams from scoring, allowing 23.7 points per game.

Joseph is the one who is in charge of this. He hasn’t figured out a way to be better on offense or stop teams from scoring on his defense. It is time for him to go. The tricky part about firing him is his contract. He still has 3 years remaining. If Denver were to fire Joseph following the Kansas City game, Denver is obligated to pay him for the next 3 years.   General Manager John Elway must decide what is best for the franchise. It seems like moving on from Joseph is the way to go.

What do you think will happen to Vance Joseph once the season is over?
