Time For The Atlanta Falcons To Let Michael Vick Retire As A Falcon

By Jordan Long

In February Michael Vick retired from the NFL. He didn’t appear in a game last season but played 13 years in the NFL.   Vick would like the opportunity to leave the game as a member of the Atlanta Falcons and sign a one-day contract.

Vick should be able to do that. He was drafted by the Falcons in 2001 and spent 6 years there. During his seasons in Atlanta he established himself as one of the best running quarterbacks in the game with a total of 6,109 rushing yards, 3,859 came in Atlanta. In a Falcons’ uniform Vick threw for 11,505 of his 22,464 passing yards.   He added 71 touchdowns.

Vick wants this to happen but hasn’t spoken to the Falcons about it to this point. According to ESPN, Vick said, “Well, I haven’t talked to anybody about it specifically. It’s something that I’ve really been thinking about trying to get done. I was asked the question the other day — is that what I want — and I said, ‘Yeah.’”

The only downside for the Falcons was Vick’s involvement in a dog fighting ring when he was a member of the Atlanta Falcons. His career was halted for two years because he was sentenced to 23 months in prison for running the operation.   The Falcons decided to release him on January 12, 2009. That was 8 years ago.   Vick served his time.

The Falcons must make this happen. Vick made 2 NFL playoff appearances with the team. They helped him become an elite quarterback plus his NFL journey started there. Falcons’ Owner Arthur Blank needs to make this happen soon. Hopefully, both of them will talk and Vick will have his ceremony to retire as a member of the Atlanta Falcons organization.

What do you think of Michael Vick wanting to retire as an Atlanta Falcon? Should this happen?
