Tim Tebow Back In The NFL

Tim Tebow is headed back to the NFL. The former 1st-round pick and Heisman Trophy winner is expected to sign a one-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles. It will be worth the league minimum, which is about $420,000. Is this really a move the Eagles had to make?

The Eagles are stacked at quarterback. They have three signed: Mark Sanchez, Sam Bradford, and Matt Barkley. Once they sign Tebow, the Eagles will have three former 1st-round picks. According to ESPN, the Eagles tried to trade Matt Barkley but couldn’t receive anything in return. In order for Tebow to make the team, he would have to prove he is a better quarterback than Matt Barkley. It will be a tough task for Tebow.

Tebow hasn’t played a regular season game since the 2012 season when he was with the New York Jets. He played in 12 games that year and threw eight passes, completing six of them for 39 yards. He went to New England in 2013 in hopes he would make the roster. He struggled in the preseason. He was 11 of 30 for 145 yards, two interceptions and two touchdowns. The Patriots released him. Last year Tebow was an analyst for the SEC Network.

The major problem with Tim Tebow has always been his accuracy. His first full year, 2010, he completed 50% of his passes. In 2011 that number went down to 46.5%. 2012 was the highest completion percentage of his career, completing 75% of his passes even though he only threw 8 passes, 6 of them where caught. Since 2012 Tebow has worked with throwing coach Tom House to be a more accurate thrower.

This could be Tebow’s best and last chance to make an NFL roster. The problem with Tebow is he only wants to be a quarterback in the league. During his three years of experience in the NFL, he has shown he isn’t an NFL quarterback. For him to play in the NFL, he has to be willing to switch positions. He is built like a fullback. He could block for a running back or have the ball handed off to him to run for a few yards. It will be interesting to see if he can make the Eagles’ roster as a backup quarterback.

What do you think of Tim Tebow trying to make an NFL comeback?

  1. Had to have “been there and lost it” to make a comeback. He doesn’t qualify by this definition to make a comeback. Good luck to him and the Eagles, but his talent has not been sufficient to allow him to be a consistent winner. Can’t see what the Eagles see in him. If “it” happens for him now, great; I just don’t see it.
