Pitcher Tim Lincecum is not ready to retire from the game of baseball. He is trying for one more chance at a Major League comeback. According to Yahoosports.com, Rick Thurman, Lincecum’s agent, said his “client is throwing and getting ready for the season.” Who would want to sign him?
Lincecum is not the pitcher he once was. In 2015 Lincecum pitched in 15 games for the San Francisco Giants going 7-4 with an ERA of 4.13. He was shut down because of hip injuries and required surgery. After the 2015 season the San Francisco Giants decided to move on from him.
Lincecum was not done pitching. He was hoping to get a Major League Baseball contract to continue pitching. On May 20, 2016 the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim gave him a one-year $2 million contract. He appeared in 9 games going 2-6 with an era of 9.16. On August 6th, the Angels designated him for assignment. Once he cleared wavers he was a free agent. There wasn’t another team that picked him up, ending his 2016 season.
Lincecum’s best chance to pitch in the Major Leagues is to come out of the bullpen as a relief pitcher to pitch one or two innings. Lincecum would be able to come into games and strike batters out, helping a team win games. It might save Lincecum’s career depending on how he performed.
The only problem with this is he wants to be a starter. His best days are behind him and he may not be worth the risk. If teams don’t call him, it will be time for Lincecum to retire from Major League Baseball.
