The Cleveland Cavaliers Sign Derrick Rose, Time For Them To Trade Kyrie Irving

By Jordan Long

The Cleveland Cavaliers agreed to a contract with point guard Derrick Rose. The deal is for one year and will pay Rose the veteran’s minimum salary of $2.1 million. This should signal the end of Kyrie Irving in Cleveland.

Irving asked for a trade last week. Irving wants a bigger role on a team that he doesn’t have currently with the Cavaliers. According to ESPN, Irving’s agent Jeff Wechsler said, “Kyrie and I had a meeting with Cavs leadership where we discussed many different scenarios in reference to Kyrie and his future with the team. The basis of those discussions and what went on in those discussions are between the Cavs and us. We are respectfully going to keep those private.”

Both Derrick Rose and Kyrie Irving play the same position, point guard. Irving is a better player. He is younger at 25 years old and averaged 25.2 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 5.8 assists last season. Rose is three years older but he is still effective on the court. Rose averaged 18 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game last year. The production is about the same between the two. The Cavaliers won’t miss Irving’s play when they replace it with Rose’s.

The Cleveland Cavaliers need to make a trade and ship Irving out. He is unhappy with the organization and doesn’t seem to want to play alongside LeBron James. They have already signed his replacement in Rose. There is no way Irving can stay now.

The Cavaliers must find a trade partner. The tricky part about a trade is it is salary based. They must find a team willing to take Irving and his salary. He has three years and around $60.29 million left on his current deal. That is a lot of money for a team to take on. The time is now to trade Irving. If they don’t, it could be an awkward situation next season with him back on the team.

Do you think it is time for the Cavaliers to trade Kyrie Irving? If so why and where will he land?
