Terry Collins Done Managing The New York Mets At The End Of The Season?

By Jordan Long

The New York Mets are 68-90 and are going to miss the postseason for the first time since 2014. Once the year is up, the Mets may not bring back manager Terry Collins. Collins wants to continue managing even if it isn’t with the New York Mets. According to nypost.com, Collins said, “I’m going to be somewhere. If after we have discussions, if it feels I shouldn’t be here, then I won’t be. We’ve created something here that’s pretty good. That’s my take. I haven’t talked to anybody about it so we’ll go from there.”

Collins has been with the Mets since 2011. His combined record is 549-581 which isn’t all that impressive. New York made the postseason twice with him including a run to the World Series in 2015 where they lost to the Kansas City Royals in 5 games.

The Mets shouldn’t let Collins go. Not many teams make the playoffs two out of three years or go to a World Series. He needs to have one more year to prove this year is a fluke. Collins might turn this team around next season and make the playoffs once again.

If the Mets decide Collins isn’t the right fit for their team moving forward, plenty of teams are interested. He has 13 years of experience managing major league baseball including the Houston Astros, Anaheim Angels and the New York Mets. His career record is 993-1015. With his baseball knowledge, he improves a baseball team but may not make the playoffs or win a World Series.

The only downside is his age. When the regular season starts next year, he will be 69. Teams might stay away from him because they will want a younger manager to lead their team. Hopefully Collins will be in Major League Baseball even if it is a front office job.

What do you think the New York Mets should do with Terry Collins? Where will he end up?
