The Seattle Seahawks are searching for a veteran quarterback to backup Russell Wilson. The other quarterbacks on the roster are Trevone Boykin, who is in his second season, and Jake Heaps, who hasn’t appeared in an NFL game. They are looking into adding Colin Kaepernick.
Colin Kaepernick has played 6 years in the NFL appearing in 69 games. He has thrown for 12,271 yards and 72 touchdowns. Kaepernick is able to protect the football and doesn’t throw into double coverage for it to be picked off with only 30 interceptions thrown.
What makes him difficult to bring down is his running ability in the open field. Kaepernick’s speed allows him to not only rush for a first down, but a long gain. He has rushed for 2,300 yards. The only downside with him running the football is he doesn’t protect it and it’s knocked away by the defense with a total of 21 fumbles.
Seattle would be a fit. According to NBCsports.com, Seattle Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett said, “I think you look at the things he’s done over the years, on this team, we’re a running-based offense and [to] be able to play the [read] option would give him a lot of opportunities to be able to be a featured player in the NFL again. I think we’ve got a great system, great players, and we’ve got Russell, who’s won a lot of games too. So it’d be good for him.”
Seattle is a good place for Kaepernick. If Wilson goes down, the offense wouldn’t miss a beat because of what he adds. Kaepernick can run the bootleg to open up the passing game. If he needs to he can run for first downs just like Wilson.
Kaepernick is the quarterback they are looking for to backup up Wilson. This would be a way for Kaepernick to stay in the NFL if he still wants to play next season. It is worth the Seahawks making a phone call to Kaepernick to see how much interest he has to be on the Seattle Seahawks roster this upcoming season.
