Quarterback Trevor Siemian’s Golden Opportunity In Denver

The Denver Broncos will have an open quarterback competition once training camp starts in mid-July. Mark Sanchez is the front-runner because he has played in the NFL for eight seasons. Next up on the depth chart is Paxton Lynch who the Broncos drafted in the 1st round in this year’s NFL Draft. The dark horse is Trevor Siemian.

Trevor Siemian will have a chance to show the Denver Broncos’ coaching staff that he should start this upcoming season. Siemian was drafted in the 7th round of the 2015 NFL draft. He only appeared in one game last season and it was for a kneel down to close out the 1st half in a loss against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

According to the Denver Post, Head Coach Gary Kubiak said, “I think Trevor has a maturity to him. He’s kind of the sleeper, I would say. Trevor knows the offense. He’s very comfortable and can throw the ball too. We’ve also seen him make big plays in the preseason games under the lights. I wouldn’t sleep on Trevor to win the job, either.”

Siemian may not have the experience on the field that Mark Sanchez has, but he has the advantage of knowing the playbook. He has been in this offense for a year longer. Siemian should know the language that Kubiak uses and the plays he likes to run.

Kubiak has seen what Siemian has done in the preseason last year. Siemian needs to show what he has learned and how he has progressed from last year. The practice field is a great way to start, but that is not the only way to demonstrate. When he is out there in the preseason games, he must prove with his play that he is ready to take over the football team. If Siemian outplays Mark Sanchez and Paxton Lynch, it would be difficult for the Broncos not to have him start. If he plays poorly then he could be back as the 3rd string quarterback or the backup. The coaches will review his play, not only live but also on tape and get a better of how he performed. Siemian has a golden opportunity the he must not waste.

How do you feel about Trevor Siemian and his possibility of becoming the Denver Broncos starting quarterback?
