Peter DeBoer’s New Gig, Head Coach Of The Dallas Stars

Peter DeBoer was let go by the Vegas Golden Knights on May 16th.  It didn’t take long for him to find his new gig.  DeBoer is now the Head Coach of the Dallas Stars.  Dallas hopes he is the answer for them to be Stanley Cup Champions.

                The Stars’ job had been open since Rick Bowness stepped away from the team on May 20th.  This was after the Stars were beaten by the Calgary Flames in the first-round of the NHL playoffs.  Bowness spent the past 3 seasons as Head Coach of the Dallas Stars.  During that time, Bowness went 89-62-25.  Dallas ended up making the postseason 2 of his 3 years.  In 2020, they advanced to the Stanley Cup Final even though the NHL ended in the bubble setting.  They lost to the Tampa Bay Lightning in 6 games.  Of course, this year they were knocked off in 7 games.

                The Stars started a coaching search for their next Head Coach.  They wanted one with Head Coaching experience in the NHL.   They felt DeBoer was the right fit for the job.  DeBoer has been an NHL Head Coach in the league for a total of 15 years.  His stops include Florida, New Jersey, San Jose, and Vegas.  His overall record is 513-379-123.  His teams earned a playoff spot 7 times and advanced to the Stanley Cup Final twice, 2012 and 2016.  2012 with New Jersey, they faced the L.A. Kings and were beaten in 6 games.  2016 DeBoer coach San Jose.  Again, that ended in disappointment, losing in 6 games.

                According to NHL.com, DeBoer said, “Over the last few seasons, I have seen firsthand what the Stars are building with a mix of dynamic young players and established leaders. The chance to become this team’s next head coach was an opportunity that I couldn’t pass up. I would like to thank (Stars owner) Tom Gaglardi and (general manager) Jim Nill for the chance to help guide this team as we work together to bring another Stanley Cup to Dallas.”

                DeBoer has his chance once again to lead a team as Head Coach.  Dallas will be patient with him and give him time to turn this team into a threat to win the Stanley Cup.  That is the goal.  Dallas has not won the Stanley Cup since 1999.
