Pacquiao vs Mayweather Coming In May

One of the biggest boxing matches in recent times is set. Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather have finally agreed to fight a Welterweight match. This will take place on May 2nd at the MGM Grand.   It’s projected to be the richest boxing match, possibly grossing $400 million. The spilt is going to be 60-40% for Floyd Mayweather. Mayweather could make $120 million, while Pacquiao would take home at least $50 million.

This match has been in the works for many years. Every time they were close to an agreement, negotiations broke down. Manny Pacquiao is sponsored by HBO while Floyd Mayweather uses Showtime. HBO and Showtime will share the rights.

A ticket starts at $1,000 up to $5,000. That’s for seats sold at the MGM box office. Sponsors, promoters and fighters will buy most of these tickets before they go on sale. The best option for consumers is to find a secondary market such as Stubhub.com and Seatgeek.com. According to Seatgeek.com, the cheapest ticket right now is $4,000. The most expensive ticket is $25,000. That’s a lot of money to spend to see these two box. Prices are going to keep rocketing up until May 2nd.

A great alternative to watching the fight live in Las Vegas is to watch it on Pay-Per-View. It won’t be cheap. The price to order the fight will cost approximately $89.95. That’s not even in High-definition. HD will be $10 more. Showtime and HBO have agreed to come together for the broadcast.

Since 2009, promoters have been working to put these two boxers in the ring together. Too bad they couldn’t settle this years ago when both fighters were in their prime. Each boxer will be millions of dollars richer after it is all said and done.

How will you watch this fight? Who are you rooting for to win?

  1. As long as people are willing to pay in the thousands to watch a fight , there will be promotors to put it together. Not as popular as boxing used to be.
