NFL Football In L.A?

The Oakland Raiders are having difficulty with not only extending their lease but also trying to upgrade their stadium. The San Diego Chargers want a new stadium but they can’t sellout a game. The Chargers and the Raiders have issued a plan to possibly build a stadium for joint use.

The arena would be located in Carson, California. The projected cost is $1.7 billion.   The Chargers move is only two hours to their new home. Oakland will be relocating 386 miles south, bringing football back to the Los Angeles area. A ballot measure is being formulated although there is not much information about it. Voters would have the final say.

The Raiders and the Chargers aren’t the only teams thinking about moving to L.A. Stan Kroenke, owner of the St. Louis Rams, has land in Englewood, California, and is thinking about building a stadium there. He wants a new stadium for his team. The Edward Homes Dome in St. Louis is 20 years old. If Kronke builds a new arena in St. Louis the Rams won’t move. In order for any team to relocate, 24 of 31 NFL owners must approve.

  1. I agree L A should have football . If Oakland moves the Bay Area would still have the 49ers. I think a shared stadium is a fine idea.

  2. Fine LA can have a team as long as it’s not the St. Louis Rams! I lived thorough the Cardinals leaving town. I don’t think LA people are football fans. Back when we lived in LA, my dad had Super Bowl tickets to Rams v Steelers 1980 at Rose Bowl. He had a hard time finding anyone interested to go with him. One of the best Super Bowls ever played.

    • As you well know the only teams with ties to L.A. are the Raiders and Rams. Those are the only two teams that people who have lived in the L.A. area know about football.
