Miami Dolphins Searching For Running Back, Arian Foster The Answer?

The Miami Dolphins are in need of a running back.  They decided not to resign Lamar Miller who signed a four year $26 million contract with the Houston Texans.  The Dolphins thought they had secured restricted free agent C.J. Anderson but Denver decided to match their offer and retain Anderson.  Chris Johnson visited, but chose to stay in Arizona.  Next in line is Arian Foster, who is scheduled to talk to the Dolphins today.

Foster is a former number one back in this league.  He has rushed for 6,472 yards and 54 touchdowns in his 7 seasons.  All of them came with the Texans.  Foster has the speed to be a one cut running back.  He can make opponents miss in the open field.

The problem with Foster, though, is his injury history.  Last year, he ruptured his Achilles tendon in week seven, which ended his season.  In 2013 Foster was limited to eight games and had surgery on his back.  The 2011 season he appeared in 13 games but a hamstring injury limited his play.

According to CBSsports.com, Head Coach Adam Gase said, “The reason we were trying to do that is we’re looking to having more than one guy. Jay is going to be a big part of what we’re doing.  I’d like to have multiple backs. Right now, we don’t have a lot of guys on the roster.  I think we only have three guys on the roster right now. We’re going to need to really develop that stable of backs.”

Arian Foster can be the other back on this team besides Jay Ajaji.  Ajaji is expected to be the starter in his second season.  Foster is a great runner, but the Dolphins may be taking a risk because of his injury history.  Miami should stay clear of him because one carry or one wrong step could put Foster back on the injured reserved list.  That would be a waste of money.

The Dolphins would like to have a running back with experience, but the best option might be  to draft one.  Ajayi could teach the rookie what he learned last year and assist him in the offense.  They both would have young legs and not an injury history.  Foster isn’t worth the signing because of his inability to stay on the football field.

What do you think of the Dolphins looking into making a deal with Arian Foster?
