Miami Dolphins’ Quarterback Ryan Tannehill Out, Playoffs Hopes Rest On Matt Moore

By Jordan Long

The Miami Dolphins beat the Arizona Cardinals 26-23 on Sunday, improving their record to 8-5. Late in the third quarter, Miami Dolphins’ quarterback Ryan Tannehill was hit low by Arizona Cardinals’ defensive lineman Calais Campbell. Tannehill left the game and didn’t return. It was feared he tore his ACL and would miss the season. On Monday, they received news what Tannehill didn’t tear his ACL, but suffered an ACL and MCL sprain. According to ESPN.com, Head Coach Adam Gase said, “This is not going to be one game. It’s going to be longer than that. How will this affect the Dolphins?”

Tannehill has thrown for 2,995 yards and 19 touchdowns. His biggest problem this season was turnovers. Tannehill tossed 12 interceptions and fumbled 5 times. That is 17 turnovers. Despite that, the Dolphins are in a playoff race for the last Wild Card spot. His injury could be the reason they don’t make the playoffs. This will be Tannehill’s first missed game in almost five seasons.

Matt Moore filled in for Tannehill on Sunday. He only threw 5 passes and 3 of them were caught for 47 yards. He didn’t throw a touchdown or an interception. Moore led Miami on a 44-yard drive to setup up Andrew Frank’s 21-yard field goal with no time left, to win the game

This week Moore will practice with the first team offense. That should help him as they prepare for the New York Jets. Moore hasn’t started a game since 2011 and that year he went 6-6.

The Dolphins hopes of making the playoffs rest on Matt Moore. It won’t be an easy task. The next two games are on the road against the Buffalo Bills and the New York Jets. The only home game left is the last game of the year when they host the New England Patriots.

The Dolphins are going to need Matt Moore to play well in those games. He can’t get sacked or throw interceptions. If he does, that will put the defense in a tough position to stop the opponent from scoring. His play will determine the outcome of the Miami Dolphins’ season.

How do you feel Matt Moore will do in the last three games of the season? Will it be enough for the Dolphins to get into the playoffs?
