Josh Rosen To Start For Miami This Week, Dolphins’ Problems Go Far Deeper Than The Quarterback

By Jordan Long

The Miami Dolphins head to Dallas to take on the Cowboys.  Miami is looking for their 1st win of the season.  They decided to make a switch at quarterback in hopes of turning their season around.  Josh Rosen will start while Ryan Fitzpatrick will be the backup.

Fitzpatrick started the first 2 weeks of the season.  He has been dreadful and hasn’t seen the field all that well.   Fitzpatrick is throwing the ball into double coverage and some of his passes have been right to the defenders for easy takeaways.  Those have equaled incompletions and interceptions.  Fitzpatrick tossed for 274 yards, which puts him 31st in the NFL.  His completion percentage is poor at 50% with 4 interceptions.  He even threw two pick-sixes late last week against the New England Patriots. He only has 1 touchdown.

The Dolphins poor beginning of the season isn’t all Fitzpatrick’s fault.  The offense as a whole isn’t doing their job.  The offensive line isn’t creating holes for the running backs to run through with a paltry 31.5 yards per game putting a lot of pressure on Fitzpatrick’s arm.  They pass for 192.0 yards per game. The offensive drives produce 5 points per game, dead last in the NFL.

The defense can’t stop opponents from gaining yards and allow them to score.  The defense permits 511 yards per game with 316.5 yards coming through the air.  The defense is not stopping the run giving up 194.5 yards per game.  All of these combined equal the poor start.

The Dolphins need a spark to change the course of their season. They feel like a change at quarterback might be the solution.  Rosen hasn’t started a game since last year when he was with the Cardinals.  He couldn’t play much worse than Fitzpatrick

The problem is the Dolphins aren’t a great team.  They are a franchise rebuilding and may not win a game this year.   What happens if Rosen struggles?  They might have to go back to Fitzpatrick but by then their hopes of reaching the playoffs could be dashed.
