Joe Judge’s Seat Getting Warmer, May Not Be The New York Giants’ Head Coach Much Longer

The New York Giants are preparing to take on the New Orleans Saints.  Kick-off is at 11 A.M. Mountain Time on Sunday.  The Giants hope to avoid an 0-4 start to the season.  Head Coach Joe Judge is on the hot seat.  Another loss and his time in New York could be winding down.

                The Giants hired Judge on January 8th, 2020.  This was after the Giants fired Pat Shurmur following a 4-12 record in 2019.  Shurmur ended 9-23 in his two seasons with the Giants, a winning percentage of .281.  The hire of Judge was surprising. He had never been an offensive or defensive coordinator at the NFL level.  He had served as the special teams coach with the New England Patriots.  From 2012 to 2014 he was the special team’s assistant.  In 2015 he was elevated to the special team’s coordinator.  In 2019 he ended as the wide receivers coach as well as the special team’s coordinator.   

                Last year, the Giants went 6-10, ending up with the 11th pick in the NFL Draft.  They decided to trade the pick and ended up going down in the draft after a trade with the Chicago Bears. Chicago gave the Giants their first-round pick, 20th overall, and a first-round pick and fourth-round pick in the 2022 NFL draft.  The Bears were able to select Justin Fields while the Giants took wide receiver Kadarius Toney.

                The Giants were expecting to be competitive this year.  The NFC East was a winnable division.  It was anticipated to be a close race for the division.  The Giants have been close to winning their last two games, but fell by a combined 4 points.  There are no moral victories in the NFL and the record says what a team is.  They are 0-3.

                The Giants could turn their year around.  They are only 2 games behind the Cowboys for first place in the division.  All they need is to win a few games and have the Dallas Cowboys fall which could happen.  Then again it looks like another lost season for the Giants. The Giants haven’t earned a playoff spot since 2016.  A poor showing this week against the Saints and it could be time to let Judge go.  He may still coach the rest of the year no matter what.  His seat is only going to get hotter with every loss.
