Houston Texans Running Game In the Hands Of Jonathan Grimes And Alfred Blue

The Houston Texans lost to the Miami Dolphins 44-26 on Sunday. Starting running back Arian Foster suffered a torn Achilles tendon in the 4th quarter and will be out the rest of the season. Who will take his place in the backfield?

Foster has been the Texans starting running back since 2010. In his career he has rushed for 6,472 yards and 54 touchdowns. Foster is also a threat to catch the ball with 249 receptions for 2,268 yards and 14 touchdowns.

This year didn’t start well for him, missing the first three games of the season with a groin injury. He suffered the injury during training camp. In limited action Foster ran for 163 yards on 63 carries, an unimpressive 2.6 yards per rush and only one touchdown. He also had 227 yards receiving with 2 touchdowns. According to ESPN, Head Coach Bill O’Brian said, “I feel terrible for him. He’s done a lot for us in the two years I’ve been here. I hate that part of the game.”

The Houston Texans will go with their backup running backs. Alfred Blue will be the starter. Blue started the first three games of the season and rushed for 234 yards and one touchdown. In the air he has 3 receptions for 22 yards. Blue can’t do as much as Arian Foster because he isn’t as fast to make the defense miss tackles. Foster is more of a duel threat.

The Texans are also going to need to run the ball with Jonathan Grimes who only has 286 yards and one touchdown in his career. Grimes might be a better option to go out for passes because he has 230 career yards receiving.

The Houston Texans will miss Arian Foster. Blue and Grimes will be the featured backs in this offense. They have to be able to run the ball to take pressure off of the quarterback. Running the ball will also tire out the defense which could equal to longer passes and runs which could put points on the scoreboard.

What do you think of the running backs the Texans have on this roster?
