Denver Placing Wide Receiver Courtland Sutton On The Trade Block?

By Jordan Long

The NFL Draft starts on April 28th and wraps up on April 30th.  Right now, the Broncos have 5 picks.  These are 2 in the 3rd round, a 4th, a 6th, and a 7th round.  The Broncos could be looking to trade wide receiver Courtland Sutton to haul in more draft capital.

Sutton has been with the Denver Broncos since 2018.  In that time, he has become the Broncos’ #1 wide receiver on the depth chart.  He has caught 239 passes for 3,487 yards, and 14 touchdowns.  Sutton protects the ball well with only 2 fumbles but has never lost one in his career. Last season, Sutton grabbed 64 catches for 829 yards and 2 touchdowns.

The Broncos know they want to add draft picks.  Sutton may be the odd man out.  The Broncos have depth on the roster.  These include Tim Patrick,  Jerry Jeudy, and Kendall Hinton.  Tim Patrick can replace Sutton.  He has shown the ability to be the #1 wide receiver for the Broncos with 143 receptions for a total of 2,009 receiving yards, and 12 touchdowns.  Patrick though is coming off an ACL tear that cost him the whole 2022 season.

Jeudy has been criticized for his poor play.  Even so, he totaled 972 receiving yards and 6 touchdowns this past season.  Those are career highs for him. Overall, he has caught 157 passes for 2,295 yards and 9 touchdowns.

Hinton is not as experienced as Jeudy or Patrick.  He has still been productive with 39 catches for 486 yards and 1 touchdown.  Those numbers might grow as Hinton receives more playing time.

Denver needs draft picks.  In the end, the Broncos will do what they feel is best for them.
