Comments Spice Up The Rocky Mountain Showdown Between CSU And CU

By Jordan Long

The University of Colorado (CU) football team is ranked #18 in the AP poll.  They take on Colorado State (CSU) in the Rocky Mountain Show Down. Colorado is looking for their first 3-0 start since 2018.  That year they opened the season 5-0 but lost their last 7 games.

The University of Colorado has owned this series with a record of 67-22-2.  Colorado has also won the last 6 out of 7 matchups.  They haven’t played each other since 2019.

CSU knows this is their biggest game of the year.  They play in the Mountain West Conference which isn’t a big 5.  The University of Colorado is in the PAC-12 which is a Big 5 conference. A win for CSU would be their biggest of the year.

Sure, it’s a big game for the University of  Colorado since there are bragging rights for the state of Colorado but that is it.  This is not Colorado’s major game of the year.  On their schedule, they have 6 opponents who are ranked right now in the top 25.  Those include #24 UCLA, #23 Washington State, #16 Oregon State, #13 Oregon, #12 Utah, and #5 USC.

According to USAToday.com, Colorado State’s Head Coach, Jay Norvell, said, “They’re tired of all that stuff.  They really are tired of it. And I sat down with ESPN today, and I don’t care if they hear it in Boulder. I told them, ‘I took my hat off, and I took my glasses off.’ And I said, ‘When I talk to grown-ups, I take my hat and my glasses off.’ That’s what my mother taught me.”

This was taking a shot at Deion Sanders, the Head Coach of the University of Colorado.  Sanders always goes to his press conferences wearing a hat and sun glasses.  It also gave CU bulletin board material.  Colorado doesn’t need any more motivation since Sanders will have his players ready to go for this game.

According to USAtoday.com, Sanders responded by saying, “I’m a grown man. Don’t tell me what I supposed to wear and what I don’t supposed to wear. Please.”

These two comments have spiced up the Rocky Mountain Showdown. It seems like it’s the University of Colorado’s game to win since they are a 24-point favorite.  Don’t tell that to CSU.  They would love to beat their in-state rivals.  Kickoff is at 8 PM Mountain Time on Saturday as the University of Colorado hosts CSU in Folsom Field in Boulder, Colorado
