Colorado Rockies Going Nowhere, Time For Fans To Show They Are Fed Up

By Jordan Long

The Colorado Rockies are one of the worst teams in all of MLB with a record 32-50.  They are on pace to lose 100 games this year for the first time in franchise history.  Rockies fans need to send a message to the Monfort brothers who own the Rockies to show they are sick of watching a lousy team but that is going to be difficult.

The Rockies haven’t been to the postseason since 2018 when they finished with a record of 91-72, the 2nd best record in franchise history.  That year they were swept in the Division Series by the Milwaukee Brewers.  Since then, it has been all downhill.  Last year the Rockies went 68-94.

This season, the Rockies are most likely going to lose 100 games.  They are one of the worst teams when it comes to pitching with a team 5.68 ERA, 29th in baseball.  Starting ERA is the worst in the majors at 6.51.  When it comes to the bullpen their ERA is 4.79, 27th in MLB.  It shows why the Rockies are struggling.

Offense is their strength with a team batting average of .255, 12th in MLB but when it comes to home runs they aren’t smacking them with just 72, a dismal 27th in the league

The problem with Rockies’ fans is Coors Field is one of the prettiest ballparks to see a game.  In the outfield, people can see the Rocky Mountains which makes the experience even better.  Baseball fans will go to the park to enjoy a game. The Rockies draw around 26,666 fans ranking 14th in baseball. With that many fans, the Monfort brothers are making money.  It isn’t always Rockies fans who are coming to the ballpark.  There are always fans of the opposing teams flocking to Coors Field.

Looking at Denver in the summer, baseball is the only sport in downtown Denver until the Broncos start to play regular season games in September.  The  Colorado Rapids, the Major League Soccer team, play in Commerce City which is 6.9 miles north of Coors Field.  The Rapids don’t play every day.

Looking at this, it is challenging to tell the Montfort brothers that changes need to come. They will always have fans even if it is the casual baseball fan. For modifications to the franchise, fans must stop showing up and have attendance go down. This probably won’t happen. Something needs to be done because Rockies’ fans deserve a competitive team.
