Colorado Avalanche Trade Bait For The Deadline

By Jordan Long

The Colorado Avalanche are the worst team in the NHL. They sit at 16-38-3 for a total of 35 points. When the trade deadline comes on March 1st, they will be sellers, trying to shed salary. Who could be traded from the Avalanche?

Jarome Iginla is the veteran on the team. He is in his 20th NHL season. Iginla is one of the best players to ever play the game of hockey, scoring 618 goals and adding 671 assists for a total of 1,289 points. The only accomplishment left for him is to win a Stanley Cup. He is hoping to be dealt to a contender at the deadline to achieve this goal. Iginla is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.

Iginla might help a team win a Cup. He can score and find his teammates on the open ice. The problem is he is 39 years old and his cap hit is $5.3 million which is not team friendly. Iginla is not the player he once was and is in the worst year of his career. Teams could be interested because of his leadership.

Another name that will be brought up, because he is also an unrestricted free agent at the end of the year, is Rene Bourque. He may not be traded at the deadline because of the season he is having. He has only lit the lamp 9 times. Bourque wouldn’t help a team go far in the playoffs.

A skater who would be a surprise to be traded is Matt Duchene. Duchene’s salary for the next two years is $6 million. It would be difficult to find a trade partner because of his cap hit. Duchene is one of Colorado’s top players. He is a fast skater, which helps him get past the opponent’s defense to score goals. Colorado should keep him because he is part of the core of Nathan Mackinnon and Gabriel Landeskog. The Avalanche can build a team around them.

These are just a few of the names who have been in trade rumors for the Colorado Avalanche. The trade deadline is an interesting day because who knows who will get traded. Hopefully Colorado will make deals that make sense for the team, even if it is more draft picks.

Who do you think the Colorado Avalanche should trade at the deadline?
