Chip Kelly As The Next Head Coach Of The Florida Gators Football Team?

By Jordan Long

The University Of Florida is looking for a new head coach for the football team. This is after firing Jim McElwain on October 30th. One name floated out there is Chip Kelly.

Chip Kelly makes sense. He coached college football for 4 years at Oregon before leaving for the NFL. His record was an impressive 46-7. The Ducks went 12-1 in 2010 and played in the BCS Championship game. They lost to Auburn 22-19. The Ducks ended up going to 4 bowl games with him and were 2-2.

Kelly was one of the hottest college coaches and was being interviewed for NFL head coaching jobs. NFL teams were hoping his up-tempo style would tire out the defenses allowing his team to score points. It worked in 2013 when he was with the Philadelphia Eagles. They went 10-6 but lost in the Wild Card round to the New Orleans saints 26-24. The Eagles were also 10-6 in 2014 but failed to make the playoffs. In 2015, Philadelphia fired him after week 16 when they started 6-9. 2016 Kelly was with the 49ers but lasted only one year. They finished 2-14. Overall in the NFL he was a disappointing 28-35.

The Florida Gators need to hire Kelly. His resume in college football tells it all. He will be able to recruit and turn the Gators into a winning football team. It may take a season or two but Kelly knows how to make this program into a winner. They will be in contention every year, for not only a bowl game but a birth in the College Football Playoff.

Florida must give him a call soon. There will be other programs who want to hire him. If they wait, he may already have a job. It is worth the phone call to see how interested he is in being Florida’s Head Coach.

What do you think of the Florida Gators interest in Chip Kelly?
