Best Free Agent Quarterbacks Available For The Denver Broncos

The Denver Broncos head into the offseason with questions at quarterback. Peyton Manning is under contract for one more year. Speculation is that he will retire which will free up $19 million. Brock Osweiler is a free agent and is the Broncos’ first choice to replace Manning. If they are unable to reach a deal with Osweiler there are other quarterbacks they could sign after March 15.

Sam Bradford will be available during free agency. He spent last year with the Philadelphia Eagles. Bradford has passed for 14,790 yards and 78 touchdowns in his five years in the league. He can throw the football around the field to receivers. Bradford isn’t a mobile quarterback like Osweiler. He would be able to run the boot legs that coach Gary Kubiak likes to run, but he wouldn’t be as effective as Osweiler. The downside with Bradford is his injury history. He tore his ACL in his left leg in both 2013 and 2014 which forced him to miss the whole 2014 season. Bradford might be the best quarterback in free agency.

A quarterback that the Broncos should take a look at is Tarvaris Jackson. Jackson spent the last two years backing up Russell Wilson and hasn’t started since 2011. That season he appeared in 15 games and started 14 of them. Jackson is a mobile quarterback who could run Gary Kubiak’s system. The difficulty with Jackson is he hasn’t started in four seasons. Who knows if he is ready to take that leap.

The Broncos could also go after Robert Griffin III. He was coached by Mike Shanahan in 2012 to 2013. Shanahan’s coaching style is similar to Gary Kubiak. Kubiak wouldn’t have to explain what the Broncos are running on offense. He is a mobile quarterback and that gets him in trouble. Robert Griffin III takes too many unnecessary hits. He loves to take off and run but doesn’t slide to protect himself. He needs to learn to slide. Those big hits could mean the end of his season.

These are a few of the many free agent quarterbacks. Osweiler might be in high demand for a team that needs a quarterback because of what he did during Manning’s absence. If a team gives him an offer, the Broncos may not be able to match it. We will find out March 15 what happens with the quarterback situation in Denver.

Who should the Broncos go after to be the quarterback next season?

    • I would love that but Manning is not a free agent. Eli signed a 4-year, $84M extension with Giants back in September. He isn’t going anywhere for at least 4 years.
