Alshon Jeffery A Free Agent, Denver Broncos A Landing Spot?

By Jordan Long

NFL free agency starts on March 9th. The Chicago Bears are making a surprise move by not franchise tagging wide receiver Alshon Jeffery. He will test free agency. Could he land with the Denver Broncos?

Jeffery ended his 5th year in the NFL all with the Chicago Bears. He became one of quarterback Jay Cutler’s favorite targets due to his height at 6 foot 3 inches.

Jeffery’s size allowed him to out jump the defensive backs for catches going for touchdowns or first downs. In his career Jeffery has 4,549 receiving yards and 26 touchdowns.

The Denver Broncos are in the market for a wide receiver. They can rely on Emmanuel Sanders and Demaryius Thomas to catch the football. Outside of them the Broncos don’t have another wide receiver to count on to hold onto the football. That is what they lacked in the passing game last season.

The Broncos should consider talking to Jeffery. He would be another big target for Trevor Siemian to throw the football to. Jeffery is a number one or two wide out. The Broncos could shift Sanders to be the slot receiver. Jeffery would line up on the opposite side of Demaryius Thomas. They could become the best receiver core in the NFL.

The downside is Jeffery’s market value. He might want a contract of $10 to 15 million a year which is too much money. They are already paying Demaryius Thomas $14 million, which is third in the league, while Sanders is making $11 million.

The Denver Broncos ought to make the call to Jeffery. It couldn’t hurt to see what interest he has in the Denver Broncos. If he is willing to come to Denver then see what kind of deal is in store. Jeffery would improve the wide receiver position for the Denver Broncos.

What do you think of the possibility of Alshon Jeffery coming to the Denver Broncos?
