Allen Robinson’s Possible Destination This Offseason

By Jordan Long

Wide receiver Allen Robinson is a free agent.  Plenty of teams are interested in him.  Robinson would like to go to a team that has a chance to win the Super Bowl.  Among the teams who could sign him are the Green Bay Packers, the Washington Football Team, Baltimore Ravens, and the Indianapolis Colts.

Robinson will be entering his 8th year in the league.  He played for the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Chicago Bears.  Last year, Robinson had 102 catches for 1,250 yards and 6 touchdowns.  His average yards per catch was an impressive 12.3 yards.  The Bears ended up in the Wild Card round with him.  Unfortunately, the Bears lost to the New Orleans Saints 21-9.  He was the leading receiver for the Bears that day with 6 catches for 55 yards.

Now that Robinson is a free agent, he would like to have a chance to not only go back to the playoffs, but make a deeper run.  The Bears could always re-sign him.  They know what kind of player he is but don’t have the cap space right now.  They are around $1.9 million over it.  They may shred salary, but that may not be enough to keep him.  There are other teams who could offer him a contract.

The Green Bay Packers make the most sense as a landing spot.  They have one of the top quarterbacks in the league in Aaron Rodgers.  Rodgers uses all of his wide receivers. Robinson may not have the stats he put up last year in Chicago with the Packers, but still could catch the football to move the chains.  The Packers are a legitimate Super Bowl contender since they advanced to the NFC Championship game the last two years.

They don’t have room for Robinson right now.  Green Bay is over the cap by around $11 million.  Sure Robinson makes sense here, but until Green Bay fixes their cap he won’t land there this offseason.

The Washington Football Team could use a number 1 receiver.  They didn’t have that last year even though they made the playoffs.  Washington has the cap room to sign Robinson.  They have about $31 million to spend.

The difficulty with Robinson going there is he doesn’t solve Washington’s problem to make a deeper run next year.  The defense is their strength, but the offense has to be improved.  Offensive line is the area they should key on in the offseason.  They were unable to create holes for the running backs in their playoff loss to Tampa Bay.  A better offensive line might generate a better running game.

Baltimore and Indianapolis make the most sense.  They aren’t at the level of a Green Bay in terms of being a Super Bowl team, but they can make the playoffs.  Baltimore doesn’t have a great receiver for quarterback Lamar Jackson. Robinson fixes that and will be the #1 wide receiver on the depth chart.  Robison could be able to run routes to be wide open.  Jackson wouldn’t have to use his legs as much to gain yards. This might improve their passing game.  The Ravens have roughly  $22.292 million to spend in free agency.  They are a team that should take a look at Robinson.

The Colts may be the favorites to land Robinson .  They have a new quarterback in Carson Wentz.  Wentz was acquired by the Colts from the Eagles after Philip Rivers decided to retire.  A new city for Wentz is a new beginning.  The Colts advanced to the playoffs this past season but were beaten in the Wild Card round.  They are building a team to win now.  Robinson could be the player who helps them move on in the playoffs.  The Colts have plenty of cap space to sign him at $41.767 million.

Robinson will talk with a few of these teams.  He is going to make the best decision for his football career moving forward.
