Denver Broncos’ Quarterback Problem

By Jordan Long

The Denver Bronco’s fell to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday 51-23, extending their losing streak to 4 games. The Broncos started Brock Osweiler at quarterback but it was the same result, a blowout loss. Where do the Broncos go from here at quarterback?

Osweiler looked comfortable under center at least on the Broncos first drive of the game. He was able to read the defense and switch into a play that would gain yards. Denver was moving the ball at will and went to the Philadelphia 34 yard-line, ending in a 52-yard field goal by Brandon McManus.

After that, Osweiler could only put 13 more points on the scoreboard on offense. He was not reading the defense. Osweiler went up to the line and changed the play. The Eagles defended the play, almost like they knew what the play call was.

Osweiler was 19 of 38 passing for 208 yards and threw 1 touchdown. He was having a tough time protecting the football, tossing 2 interceptions and was lucky not to have a few more. Some of his passes were tipped and almost intercepted but the Eagles didn’t secure the football. The line was unable to protect him with 3 sacks.

The Broncos are back to the drawing board at quarterback. It hasn’t been all the quarterback’s fault. The offensive line is not doing their job at protecting the quarterback. It seems like anytime Osweiler or Trevor Siemian drops back to pass, they are rushed. That forces overthrows, interceptions, or sacks. They have not created holes for the running backs to run through.

The Broncos are now preparing for the New England Patriots on Sunday Night Football. Osweiler should start again. He was on a short week preparing for the Eagles. If he happens to struggle, Denver must switch to Paxton Lynch when he is healthy. Lynch has missed most of the year with a shoulder injury.   They need to know if he is the future. The Broncos have a quarterback problem this season and it won’t be solved until it is over.

What do you think the Broncos should do at quarterback?

  1. Try Trevor again!!!!! Brock is a trader! A disgrace! He was mad cause he couldn’t take Payton’s position so he left! Why would Denver even want him back? He sucks!
